Review: Jason Wu for Target part 2 (accessories)

Wheel Print, Cat Print, and Floral Print Scarves, $19.99:

These scarves are great. They're not silk, but rather an airy chiffon-like material that drapes really nicely. They are quite large, Target says they are 42x40. I had only planned to get the cat print but the other two were so pretty I had to pick them up too.

Flap Satchel, $49.99:

This is the most substantial bag in the collection. It is made of a bone/off-white thick cotton canvas, with black faux-leather trim and brass colored hardware. The handles are sturdy and the shoulder strap is adjustable. One thing to note about all the handbags is that the front metal closure isn't a pinch release, it is magnetic. I saw several people struggling to open these because it looks deceiving. : ) The interior is quite spacious, with two compartments, a couple accessory pockets, and a center zip pouch.

Classic Flap Handbags, $39.99:

I know some people might think the floral version of this purse is granny-like, but I love it! The blue color (I think they call it Belize) is super pretty, and I love the shape of the bag. The floral is made of thick cotton canvas, with navy faux-leather trim. The straw version is made of beige straw (obviously), with black faux-leather trim. Both have brass colored hardware, adjustable shoulder straps, and a roomy interior lined in a tan cotton.

Straw Clutch, $29.99:

I really like the clutches in this collection, they are oversized and actually have a lot of room in them. This version is the same beige straw as the handbag above, with black cotton canvas trim. The hardware is brass colored and the front closure is a metal clasp that curves through the front plate. There is a handy detachable faux-leather strap on one side for easy carrying, and the interior has two compartments and a center zip pouch.

Lace Clutch, $29.99:

This clutch is pretty much a duplicate of the straw one above, only it's made of black fabric covered in pretty black lace. The interior is also black fabric.

Blue Stripe Tote, $39.99:

I don't know why this tote shows up so dark in the pictures, but it's a soft cream colored cotton canvas. The handles are soft canvas, and the interior is huge! This will make a great all purpose tote, and can easily fit a laptop. I plan to use it as a weekender/shopping bag.

The only accessory the store didn't have was of course the cutest one...the Cat Tote. I don't know what was going on with these, as Target.com said they would be in stock at my store, yet they were not. I was the first one in so I know I didn't miss them. I think they never put them out, and when I asked they wouldn't even check if they had possibly missed them in the back. Whatever. Crossing my fingers that the one I ordered online ships.

Review: Jason Wu for Target part 1 (dresses & skirts)

Hello! I figured there was no better time to ease into blogging again than with the launch of Jason Wu for Target. I haven't been shopping for clothes much lately so this was a bit of a treat for me. I got to my Target about an hour before opening and I was first in line! By the time the store opened there were probably ~20 people gathered and it was thankfully not a crazy crowd. I think I spied a couple of the dreaded eBay hoarders, but for the most part everyone was nice and seemed to be excited to pick up some items for themselves. There were even a few nice moms there getting advice on what to get for their daughters.

Overall I thought the design of the pieces was very nice, and decently made with thoughtful detailing. I have to say, this line surpasses many of the previous Target designer collections for me, including Zac Posen and Rodarte. The pieces seem very wearable, and I love that it is misses sizing and not juniors, which made shopping a lot easier. If you're looking for advice on sizing, the general rule I found was that tees run big, blouses run small in the arms but large in the body, dresses run true, and skirts run small. Sorry I only have item photos; I didn't have the energy to do modeling shots!

Poplin Dress, $39.99:

This is obviously the most popular clothing item in the collection, and I can see why...it's adorable! The color is darker than in my photos, and the material is crisp but not stiff. I like the tiny crochet piping along the bodice pleating, and the pleated skirt hangs nicely. The stripes at the bottom are pink and red, and there is a back zip. I think the sizing is true except in the chest area, so some may want to size up one. I got an 8.

Pleated Shift Dress, $39.99:

I wasn't really sure if I was going to like this dress or not, but it's pretty cute in real life. The blush/yellow/black combo works, and again there is crochet piping alongside the pleats. The material is silky feeling and somewhat sheer (there is no slip), and there is a hidden button placket all the way up the front. Note this is cut very boxy, but the silky belt helps nip in the waist and give it some shape. I only tried a Medium and it seemed fine for me, as I think it is supposed to be a bit blousy.

Dot-Print Shirt Dress, $39.99:

This was a surprise buy for me. The cut is really flattering, with a nipped in waist and subtly pleated skirt. The print is little wheels, and the material is that silky sort of polyester. A hidden button placket runs up the front, and there is nice cutout crochet detailing near the shoulders and across the back. This is going to look great with a skinny belt. I found this dress to be slightly small in the bust but TTS everywhere else; I got a Medium.

Jersey Dress, $34.99:

This t-shirt dress is a nice casual alternative to most of the other dresses, and is super soft. This dress reminds me of the striped Libertine dress from their Target collection that I love, so I had to pick this one up. The chiffon trim on the neckline and sleeves is a nice touch, and I hope the raw edges hold up. I find this piece to run on the large side. The Small has a nice relaxed fit, and though it is on the shorter side it is a much better fit than the Medium, which was baggy and looked like pajamas on me.

Sleeveless Chiffon Dress, $39.99:

This dress was the most disappointing for me. The material seems more flimsy than the other dresses, and I find the cut of the bodice slightly off. The dress is sheer but has a lining, and the belt is simple but acceptable. The sizing, however, is way off. I picked up a Medium and it is big in the chest and huge in the waist/sides. Belted it's definitely passable, and a Small would alleviate the tent-like shape, but I found the armholes to be cut high and so didn't want to go down a size. This one is probably going back.

Pleated Skirts, $29.99:

I LOVE these skirts! You can't go wrong with a classic pleated skirt, and these hang really nicely. The black looks great with several tops from the collection, and the navy floral pairs well with the floral top as seen in the lookbook. I found these skirts to run small. There is a side zip with a hook closure, and the waistband does not stretch. The 6 zipped fine but I want to be able to tuck in tops comfortably so I sized up to an 8.

Unfortunately the gorgeous Flared Dress and the Cycle Dress with Pearls were not available in my store, but I knew that going in and had already ordered them online. I hope they actually ship, and that they fit!

Review: Missoni for Target

I have been anticipating Missoni for Target, the newest Target designer line since the GO International dress re-releases this spring. I always prefer to shop in store, which was a good thing this time because the Target website crashed and a lot of people still don't know if they will receive their orders. When the line launched this past Tuesday I was at Target bright and early, five minutes before they opened. I live in an out of the way area and I am usually the only person at this Target on designer launch days, but this time, not so much. There was a line of about 25 people when I arrived, and unfortunately at least half of them seemed to be (insert expletive here) eBay resellers/hoarders. They literally ran in and grabbed cartfuls of items with no regard to the other customers. I had to make a quick decision about which item I wanted the most, and I knew it was the fabulous Espresso Set, which I don't regret, as there were only 2 of them!

However, that choice did cause me to find an almost empty womens clothing display by the time I got there. I did manage to pick up a few items in the mad crush of people, and I put several items back that I didn't really think I'd make use of so people who really wanted them could have them (tote bag, umbrella, wrap, pjs, cosmetic bags, etc.). I also made a couple subsequent trips to other Targets throughout the week and found a few leftovers. Below is what I picked up (I won't bother posting links to the items because everything is sold out online).

Sleeveless Multicolor Zigzag Dress:

This is my favorite item in the collection. I love the brown/blue/melon color combo, and the pattern is beautiful. The knit material isn't too delicate and there is a nice lining underneath. I will probably belt this to give it more shape, and pair it with some knee-high boots. I got a M, which I think is the right size because a S would have been too short and clingy.

Sleeveless Panel Sweater Dress:

I hadn't planned to get this dress but when I saw it in store I really liked it. The design is simple and the cut of the sheath is perfect. The material is a thick, stretch cotton. I can see rocking this with a cropped leather jacket, tights, and some booties when the weather gets colder. I got a M because that was all that was left, and it is a little loose on the sides, but I think a S would have been wayyy too short anyway.

Strappy Sweater Dress:

This sweater dress was a random find, and I love the classic black & white zigzag pattern in a youthful cut. The material is a thicker knit, and it is nicely lined. I am thinking of layering this over a tie-neck blouse and pairing it with some nice heels. Again, I got a M as it was all that was left, and it worked out perfectly.

Suede Pumps:

I think these pumps are simple yet stylish, and I like that they don't have zigzag overload. The heel is a chunky wood, and they are easy to walk in. I'm a little concerned about the dye bleeding, but hope to see reviews that they hold up well. I found them to be TTS, I got an 8.5.

Overall I really loved the collection, and I'm definitely inspired to check out M Missoni pieces in the future. Target, however, needs to really think about the way they distribute these collections. Obviously they failed to anticipate the demand and the stress it would place on their website (I don't like the new design either), and they should really consider limiting items per person so that a handful of people who don't even want the merchandise aren't walking out with the entire collection. Those resellers really disgust me, and it was sad seeing so many disappointed people walk away without the items they were coveting.

I'm still on the lookout for the following sweaters in a size Small or Medium. I refuse to buy from a price-gouging reseller, so if anyone has one that didn't work out for them please let me know!

Confessions of a Proud Shopaholic?

I initially wasn't going to do a post on the Anthro blogger scandal, but I have to say I'm a little bit surprised by all the posts and assumptions about irresponsible spending and gross consumerism. I don't automatically see a correlation between stealing and shopping addiction. Nor do I see love for a brand as a bad thing...and for the record I may focus on Anthropologie a lot because it is accessible to me, but I do love fashion across the board and I buy pieces from other brands.

I consider shopping, fashion, and yes, Anthropologie, a hobby. It makes me happy. I enjoy reading about it, writing about it, and if I want to spend my time hunting down a dress with birds on it that doesn't make me a crazy person. I make a good income, my bills are paid, I have no kids or family to care for, and if I want to spend my hard earned money on clothes and shoes and whatever else strikes my fancy I will, and I'm not going to apologize for it. I shop because I *want* to, not because I have to.

I started this blog because I needed something to take my mind off some very bad things in my life. I'm not trying to amass a cult following, or make money, or win a popularity contest. I know I don't blog enough, that my photos are kinda lame, and that I don't share enough of my life for anyone to really get a sense of who I am, but this is my little corner of the world where I can share something pretty I've found with others who might enjoy reading about it, and maybe connect with another person from time to time.

For the record, I am not personally affected by the situation, as I did not utilize the services of the blogger in question, nor was she my "friend," as she de-linked me quite some time ago for (I believe) voicing an opinion about resellers she didn't agree with. I feel bad for those who have been taken advantage of, and I hope the situation is rectified, but I don't think there is any reason to shy away from fashion or Anthropologie because of it. (Though this does highlight why I think sponsorships are pointless. It actually turns me off of companies who sponsor everyone and their mother. They don't know these people, and neither do we.)

I can't help somehow feeling like "we" are somehow missing the point of the lesson here. Do we see how blind adoration is a bad thing? Do we wonder why none of the victims felt like they could bring this to anyone's attention? Do we stand up for those who don't have as large a voice? Food for thought.

On a happier note, I went out and bought the Tupelo Dress today. Sure, maybe other seeing it on Anthro bloggers inspired me with their pretty pictures and lovely stylings, but I bought it because I loved it, and their "influence" - I thank them for it.

Review: Anthropologie Essential Summer Shift

There were two items in the May Anthropologie catalog that I knew I had to have: the Spiced Dress (which I was patient enough to pick up on sale) and the Essential Summer Shift by Odille, $128. I never saw the latter in any of my local stores (though admittedly I haven't been to Anthro much lately), and the stock kept selling out online, so I decided to take the plunge last month when I spotted a popback in my size. I ordered a Small.

I have to admit when I first put it on I wasn't wowed. While I liked the airy cotton voile and the lace at the bottom, the dress looked kind of shapeless. The color is a muted black, and the lace trim, which looks to be a couple inches wide in the model shot, is actually more like 6 inches wide. There is an elastic empire waist and pleating on the bodice. What I really liked right off the bat was the softness of the linen material, the nice ruched detail at the shoulders, and the pockets! The dress is meant to fit loosely so the Small had plenty of room. Here is the dress on its own:

Then I tried it with some belts, which I found really helped define my waist and the overall look. I liked the dress with both a skinny and a wide belt. First the skinny belt (Anthro Skinny Weave Belt):

Overall I really like the dress and am keeping it. Be warned though that because the lace panel is so wide the dress appears shorter than it is, so I probably wouldn't wear this to work on its own. Once summer is over I plan to try styling it as a tunic with some colored jeans or leggings, or maybe tights and boots.

OOTDs: End of Summer Part 1

I haven't done an OOTD post in forever, so I thought I'd post a few outfits I've been trying to squeeze in before summer ends. I seem to be reaching for light, airy skirts and comfy, blousy tees these days, so you'll definitely see a pattern here.

Outfit 1:

Okay, this outfit was a total catalog steal, but I think the combination is just perfect, so why mess with it? This is my favorite tee of the moment (love the seafoam color too), and the skirt is whimsical and so vivid. I picked up these sandals last summer and they are a perfect shade of muted blue, which seems so hard to find.

I picked this skirt up months ago on my birthday haul and this is my first time wearing it! It's soft and comfy, albeit a bit short. The tee was a perfect match to the dots on the skirt, and I love the little cutouts. The heels are one of my favorite shoe purchases of the summer - the neutral shade goes with everything.

Reviews: Talbots Shoes

Sorry for the sparse posts...things have been a bit crazy for me this summer. I'm hoping I'll be able to post more frequently soon. I wanted to post these reviews before they were completely irrelevant...I believe a couple of these are still available online and the other may still be in some stores (prices are likely different now).

Let me start by saying I have never stepped foot in a Talbots store, or shopped online with them before. I guess I always thought they catered to older women, but recently I've been seeing some reviews of their merchandise and the items looked pretty nice. I decided to give their products a try when I read about their awesome shoe sale a month or so ago, especially because I loved the outfit in this pic:

I ordered three pairs of shoes, and I found the ordering experience to be pretty smooth (after a brief outage on their website). The shipping time was reasonable (about a week), and the packaging was excellent. The shoe boxes were sturdy, they were rubber-banded to avoid the shoes falling out, and each shoe was partially wrapped in paper, with special protection around the appliques. Talbots definitely gets an A+ for packaging. Now on to the shoes!

Porshia Peep-toe Platforms in dusty cameo rose, I paid $24 (here):

I loved these gorgeous pale rose pumps at first glance, and had a hard time deciding on which color I wanted. With pink being my favorite color these beauties ultimately won. I was surprised at the fine quality of the leather, which has an almost pearlized sheen. The bows are perfectly shaped and are not flimsy at all. These babies are high though, so if you're not used to walking around in heels you may find these too steep. I love them, and they fit TTS, I took an 8.5.

Libbie Patent Leather Lucite-heel City Sandals in plaster (here):

I've always been intrigued by lucite heels, but hadn't come across any that didn't look like they, well, belonged on a stage. I thought these were unique yet classy, and the light color of the patent leather makes the heel less obvious. They have a high, almost 4" heel, but the chunkiness make them easier to walk in. The crisscrossed straps didn't feel tight on my feet, and the clasp isn't constricting. I found the fit to be TTS, the 8.5 fit well.

Kiara Leather Cinched-bow Espadrilles in canyon (here):

I can never have too many espadrilles for summer, and I really liked the bow-like design on this pair. The leather is buttery soft, and although the strap is thin it feels sturdy enough. I find these to be very comfortable, and the neutral tone will go with everything. Summer isn't over yet!

Overall I am pleasantly surprised at the great quality and style of the products, especially for such amazing prices. Since I signed up for their mailing list Talbots has advertised a few more sales with further reductions and extra discounts on sale shoes and other items. I would encourage others to give them a try. I am hoping to pop into a store sometime to see if the clothes are as appealing as the shoes.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2011 Picks

I know I've been MIA for a while but I wanted to break my silence and share my picks for the awesome Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I love shopping this event, where you can pick up new fall merchandise at great prices, which will go back to their list price on August 1. I went bright and early on Friday (the first day) at 7 AM, but decided to skip the giant flagship store in downtown Seattle and the equally high-end store in downtown Bellevue because they tend to have huge crowds. I went to a smaller store right at opening time and there were only 15 or so women waiting, and I was able to get everything I wanted without any lines! Although there were some wonderful clothing items available I skipped those in favor of shoes and accessories since I've bought more than enough items at Anthropologie lately. Here's what I scoped out.

Michael Kors Blair Mother-of-Pearl Watch in Rose Gold, sale $166.90, will be $250.00 (here):

I am sooo in love with this watch! My store was almost sold out after the pre-sale, but luckily they had this beauty waiting for me. I love the chronograph style, larger masculine bracelet strap, and gorgeous mother-of-pearl dial. The Swarovski crystals add sparkle without being too bling-y. I had the hardest time choosing a color, but ultimately decided the rose gold was so lovely and would go with almost everything. The SA was super helpful and adjusted the links until I had the perfect fit. I am super tempted to get the gold and silver as well!

DV by Dolce Vita Wyatt Bootie, sale $79.90, will be $129.95 (here):

I really love these buckled, lace-up suede booties. There is a side zip so you don't have to undo the laces and buckles each time you put them on. They have a 4" heel but the 1" platform makes them easy to walk in. I think the side view of the heel and the detailing is the best part. I found these to be TTS.

Calvin Klein Leather Pump, sale $72.90, will be $109.95 (here):

I'm always on the lookout for a classic pair of pumps, and this patent leather pair fits the bill. They are simple, with only a small rivet on one side as embellishment. I wanted to get these in plum, but realistically I knew the black would be more versatile. The 4" heel is high, but the thick heel and 1" platform make it feel not so high. I found my usual size to be a good fit, but one shoe felt tight on one side. The Nordstrom SA was able to loosen the shoe up for me and now it feels much better.

Nine West Shana Wedge, sale $59.90, will be $84.95 (here):

My beloved navy Charles David maryjanes currently need a strap repair so I've been doing without my comfy go-to navy shoes. These wedges are a mixture of suede and leather, and I love the thick strap. I found them to be TTS and comfortable.

Vince Camuto Suni Boot, sale $104.90, will be $159.95 (here):

These were not on my list for the sale but were suggested by the SA. I was skeptical at first but once I put them on I loved them! The leather is great quality, and I love the slightly distressed finish and the desert color. There is a side zip so the laces are not a problem. The wedge heel looks great on and I found these very comfortable and TTS.

Well, that was my first trip the the Anniversary Sale, and I intend to make another before double points for cardholders ends! I am hoping to check out the cute Halogen tie-front blouse, the beauty exclusives, and the Spanx! Anyone else hit the sale?

Anthropologie Tag Sale Week 4 Picks

I know I'm a week late in posting this, but better late than never! Last week's Anthropologie sale was pretty big, and I thought there were many great items to choose from. Of course the extra 25% enticed me into purchasing some older sale items as well (more on that later). These were my selections from the fresh cuts:

Parading Hues Dress by Maeve, $69.95:

This colorful frock is the perfect summer party dress. Strapless dresses have been working surprisingly well for me lately. I ordered it online only to find my size waiting in the store, and it still hasn't arrived! Gah. I believe it runs big, so I sized down to a 4.

Fountain of Youth Dress by Maeve, $59.95:

I love this pinstriped shirtdress, and of course the big bow in the back doesn't hurt. Shirtdresses tend to run small in the chest, so I sized up to an 8.

Tied Down Dress by Maeve, $59.95:

I love anything pink, especially this gorgeous salmon-y shade. The simple design of this piece makes it a perfect summer staple. I hear the fit runs big so I sized down to a 4.

Diamond Lattice Dress by Moulinette Soeurs, $79.95:

Despite the bulky straps on this dress, the pretty blue and lattice pattern really drew me in. I can't wait to pair this with a white belt that I picked up recently. I found the fit TTS, I got a 6.

I seem to be drawn to slouchy sweaters right now, so I've been eyeing this one, waiting for it to hit sale. I love the soft pastels and the casual stripes. Since the fit is loose I stuck with a S.

Sable Trimmed Cardi by Sparrow, $59.95:

This sweater looks a bit odd at first, and the material is a little hard to describe...it feels like terry, kind of like a towel. Weird, I know, but it actually works. This will be perfect as a wrap or topper when traveling or lounging. I loved it, and the S had a comfortable, oversized fit.

Drawing Parallels Skirt by Odille, $39.95:

To me these are the kind of skirts that you need to have on hand, and will go with just about anything. I love the bright purple and green colors, but am tempted to pick up the yellow as well (but I really have too many yellow skirts). I hope these run TTS, I got them in S.

Skylark Blouse by Girls from Savoy, $49.95:

Who could resist the little birdies on this top? The silky material and slim cut make this a great top for nights out. I think it runs a bit small, so I ordered an 8, a size up.

What do you think, are these all keepers? I've enjoyed reading about what everyone else picked up at the sale. Now that the Seattle stores extended the 25% discount (see my post here) I suppose I will have to stop by again... : )

Anthropologie Tag Sale Week 2 Picks

Anthropologie must have heard my not so silent plea for the Nostalgic Asterisks Dress and the Rosewood Tank because they both went on sale today! This week was a little more exciting than last week's sale. Here are my picks:

Nostalgic Asterisks Dress by Girls from Savoy, $79.95:

I feel like I've been waiting forever for this dress. I love the cherry red, cute print, and crisscrossed back straps. The reviews on sizing are mixed though, and since I've seen lots in stores I'm going to go try this on when I get a chance.

Magellan Dress by Maeve, $79.95:

I've been intrigued by this dress for a while but could never find one in my size to try on. I think the combination of patterns and the color scheme make quite a pretty picture.

Spring Ready Dress by Maeve, $49.95:

While I love the deep emerald color of this go-anywhere dress I wasn't willing to shell out full price for such a simple dress. At the sale price it's an easy sell.

Summer Grown Dress by Zehavale, $69.95:

This dress doesn't seem very popular but I'm really drawn to it. I love the mesh bodice and colorful floral print. I hope to try this one on sometime soon.

Rosewood Tank by Moulinette Soeurs, $69.95:

I ordered this long awaited tank online because I'm sick of having to track things down in stores and I haven't seen any in my local stores for a while. I think the floral appliques turn this breezy number into a standout piece perfect for summer.

Radler Blouse by Girls from Savoy, $49.95:

There's something so sweet and girlish about this top that it just makes me happy looking at it. It's so pretty and springlike, and I love the yellow/green accents and double straps.

Anthropologie Spring Reviews: Tops

Yet another batch of reviews from Anthropologie for you. I had a backlog of tops and sweaters from my birthday shopping and the last couple of weeks, so here's the first batch.

*Edit: I almost forgot to mention that I saw a size 12 Sing Sweetly Dress, size 12 blue Silken Stitches Dress, and size 14 brown Hop, Skip, Jump Skirt (19.95!) today. Email me if you want location details.

Chevron Cardi by Moth, $98 (here):

I can't explain how cute this woven, slouchy cardigan is! When the SA first suggested it I thought it seemed plain, but once I put it on I loved it. It's not too thick and it's hard to tell in the picture but it slouches just right, without looking baggy. The color is a pale oatmeal and looks slightly shimmery. It's so versatile and would look great with pants, skirts, and even over dresses. The fit is oversized (but that's the idea), I got the S/M.

A-Bit-Unruly Top by Deletta, $48 (here):

This is officially my new favorite tee. I'm definitely not in the greatest shape right now and (I think) this tee still looks flattering on. It's made of a stretchy modal material, and very soft. I also like the twist collar detail. I originally wanted the minty green but then loved the punchy raspberry-ish red in store, so I had to get both. I saw two other ladies buying the red while I was checking out! Fit is TTS, I got these in S.

Admiralty Poncho by Moth, ~~$78~~ $39.95 (here):

Okay, this is kind of a unique little sweater vest. It has a very loose fit, and while I like the buttons down the side I am unsure if it just looks blah on. The sides are open, so you have to wear a shirt underneath, and the material is soft and somewhat sheer. This one just went on sale so I can get a PA, but I'm not sure if I should just return it. Opinions?

With A Twist Tank by Edme & Esyllte, $78 (here):

I love the sweet white lace and red/white striped sash on this piece. What I don't love is the fit. I'm wearing my usual 6 in the picture, and it's way too big. I can pull the material out on my sides a couple of inches. Unfortunately my store didn't have anything smaller, so I'm on the lookout for a 4. The back is also longer than the front, which I find a little strange, but I'm hoping in a smaller size it will look right. So this top runs big, size down!

Ruched Hourglass Top by Deletta, $48 (here):

I planned to buy this tee in red, but in person the navy just caught my eye more. I love anything polka dot, and this cotton tee will make a good summer staple. The side gathering and buttons down the back pull the top in to conform to your shape. The length is a bit longer than the standard tee, and the neckline is almost boatneck. I found the fit to be TTS, this is a S.

Reviews: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's

I've found myself at Kohl's a few times over the last few months trying on a bunch of items from Lauren Conrad's line, which I am really liking this year. I only have one dress from last year, but there are a lot of great pieces in the recent lines. The quality is consistently decent and the prices are very reasonable. My first purchase this year was the popular Bow Trench Coat I picked up a few months ago, but here are some other great pieces (note some of these reviews are a few weeks old, so some of the prices may have changed):

Floral Ruffle Chiffon Dress, orig. $60, sale $36:

This dress is so pretty. I don't usually like chiffon dresses because they are hard to care for, but this one isn't too delicate. I love the pastel floral print and the cascading ruffles on the bodice. The dress comes with a detached slip, and I plan to belt it with Anthropologie's Sulky Belt in blue. Runs TTS, I got a 6.

Floral Pleated Dress, orig. $60, sale $45:

This adorable dress just screams spring to me. I love the full pleated skirt and the swirly floral pattern. The back has a great cutout topped with a pretty bow. The dress is a sturdy cotton material, and the belt is made of thick black fabric. I found it to run small in the bust area so I sized up to an 8.

Bow Crop Cardigan, orig. $50, sale 30% off:

This cardigan reminds me of something you'd see at Anthropologie. It has a classic cut, is made of soft but thick cotton, and has a lovely bow detail on one side. I found it to run a bit small, so a M was a good fit to avoid any button pulling. This is from one of the newer collections but is already sold out online and I grabbed the last one at my store.

Floral Cardigan, orig. $50, sale $10:

Yes, you read that right, these cute cardigans are marked down to $10! The green is my favorite, but I also like the gray/purple and pink combos, and at this price I couldn't help but get all three. The flowers have chiffon appliques in places, and the buttons are small and pearl like. The fit is TTS, I got them in S.

Pointelle Cardigan, orig. $50, sale 40% off:

I saw this cardigan on another blogger and thought it looked lovely, and it really is. It is a pretty blush-mauve color, and while pointelle is delicate it seems like it will hold up. The sweater is sooo soft, and I think will match so many dresses and tops. I think it runs TTS, but they didn't have a S so I got a M which fits loosely but will work fine.

Johanna Pumps, orig. $59.99, sale $37.99:

Admittedly at first these suede platforms looked intimidating, but once I put them on they didn't feel as high as they looked. I have been looking for a simple black platform pump for a while, but every pair I've tried has been painful. These, surprisingly, were not. I haven't worn them out yet, but they seem easy to walk in (if you're used to heels), and feel sturdy. The insole is also padded. (Plus all sale shoes were an extra 10% off!)

Gwin Espadrilles, orig. $59.99, sale $37.99:

With summer looming a cute pair of espadrilles were in order, and these are just adorable. I was so disappointed with the scratchy, ill fitting (but so cute) Dearie Me Wedges from Anthropologie that I had my heart set on, but these have easily taken their place. The neutral color will go with everything, and I heart the bows. The insoles are padded and they feel very comfortable. I found these to be TTS to slightly large, so I stuck with my regular size but you could potentially go down a 1/2 size.

Solo Ballet Flats, orig. $54.99, sale $34.99:

I fell in love with these amazing blush satin ballet flats twined with ribbon, but the store near me only had a damaged pair in my size. I was able to find another pair at a neighboring store and somehow loved them even more the second time around. They are TTS and so soft and comfortable. They also come in gray, but I had my heart set on the blush.

Anthropologie Tag Sale Picks

I think I was the only person not disappointed by the Tag Sale this week. I actually prefer they not mark down half the store at once, because I find that overwhelming. I'm told there will be more additions to the sale over the next couple weeks, so there's still hope for my Nostalgic Asterisks Dress and Rosewood Tank. Here's my picks for this week's markdowns:

Sing Sweetly Party Dress by Porridge, $79.95:

Amazingly I have never tried this dress on. I actually thought it wouldn't sell well because of all the zipper problems, but I have to admit the print is beyond adorable, and I love the color combo. I decided to give it a shot since it was on sale and have ordered a 6 and an 8. I guess we'll see.

Around the Maypole Dress by Girls from Savoy, $89.95:

I really hadn't paid much attention to this dress because the cut reminds me of my Around the World Dress, but when I saw a lone one in my store this week I decided to try it on. It was a size 4 and it fit without being tight at all, so I'd say this runs big. The smocking in back definitely makes for a comfy fit, but I'd still advise sizing down one size. The dress was so flattering that I'm glad I stumbled across it.

Rainbow Confetti Dress by Leifsdottir, $149.95:

I'm kind of in love with this dress. I usually stubbornly hold out for second cuts on Leifsdottir but once I put this on I just didn't want to take it off. It's hard to describe the material, but it's super soft silk that is crinkled up into tiers of ruffles, and the colors are soft, yet vivid and beautiful. The neckline is braided and there is a side zip. I tried a 6 and while it has a loose, swingy shape I didn't want to size down to a 4 because I felt like it would lose the floaty-ness, which is what really makes the dress to me.

Pezza Dress by Deletta, $69.95:

Not that I need another plain jersey dress, but the color drew me in, and it seems to look flattering on everyone. This will be a good basic dress that I can put on when I can't decide what to wear! I had to order this one so I'm hoping my usual S is a good fit.

Sugar Work Skirt by Girls from Savoy, $59.95:

This sunny yellow skirt just makes you smile when you put it on. Despite the elastic waist I stuck with my usual 6. You could easily size down, but I hate for my waistbands to be tight and I'm not sure if this will shrink. This is just so comfy and cute.

Checkmate Tank by Girls from Savoy, $39.95:

This has been on my wishlist for a while, and I was actually willing to pay full price for it, but I could never actually find it. I was lazily avoiding doing a charge send, but once it went on sale I knew it was now or never. This has a great shape, and I love the bits of gingham peeking out. I hope the reviews saying it ran small were correct, because I ordered an 8 instead of a 6.

Salutations & Closings Heels by Seychelles, $79.95:

I have literally had these in my cart for like 4 months, just watching the stock slowly dwindle. I kept hoping they'd show up in my local store because the sizing reviews were really mixed. One of my two possible sizes sold out so here's hoping the other one fits! I think these are a lovely pale grayish-lavender, and the bows are the perfect touch.

Anthropologie Spring Reviews: Blouses & Skirts

Here's part two of my reviews from the weekend...

First Hints Blouse by Lil, $118 (here):

I was kind of determined not to like this, but of course once I put it on I did. This is a beautiful silk blouse with a lovely bird print. It is supposed to be blousy but I still found it to run large, so I sized down to a 4. The sleeves are really billowy with elastic wrists, and I think it will look great with both pencil skirts and jeans. It is sheer so it requires a cami underneath.

Lunar Cycles Top by The Addison Story, $88 (sold out online):

I swear I have been hunting this top for forever! I'd only come across M or L in store, but finally there was a S waiting for me! This blouse is beyond gorgeous. It is loose and flowy but I feel it does have some shape in the bodice, and the material is so pretty. It is very sheer so you definitely need a cami underneath. It is TTS with an oversized fit.

Tarot's Fate Top by Anna Sui, $79.95 (here):

I had never noticed this top until I saw it on the sale rack. The eyelet is soft and well made, and the sleeves and hem flow prettily. I rarely see Anna Sui items on second cut so I decided to snap this one up. Please excuse the white tank underneath, I was too lazy to change it...I think it makes the top look a little wider than it does in person. Sizing is TTS to a bit big, I easily fit the S with some room to spare.

Mystery Skirt by Odille, $78 (not online yet):

I loved this skirt the minute I saw it! Soft linen and an adorable lighthouse print make for a charming picture. It is full but not too full, and drapes nicely. I found the fit TTS to a little big, but I chose to stick with my usual 6. You could size down if you want to wear it lower.

Gauzy Tiers Skirt by Edme & Esyllte, $68 (here):

This reminds me of last year's Petticoat Skirt with it's tiers of gauzy cotton and lace. It's light and comfy, yet really pretty and will go with so many tops. This skirt comes in many colors, but I opted for the bright tomato-y red. Sizing is TTS but with the elastic waist you could easily go up or down. I stuck with my usual S.

Seamingly Maxi by Bordeaux, $98 (here):

Now that I am liking maxi dresses I decided to give maxi skirts a try. This simple jersey skirt is very understated, but the simple design is what makes it work for me. I didn't find the seams to stick out, and the waistband is very comfortable. Fit is easily TTS, I got a S. This also comes in a black/white stripe that is really cute, but I thought the navy would be more versatile.

Wallflower Skirt by Plenty by Tracy Reese, $39.95 (sold out online):

This isn't a new item but I didn't see a lot of reviews on it so I thought I'd do one. I like the rust color of this skirt, and the embroidered flowers. I didn't find this to be worth the full or even first cut price, but for the second cut price it was an easy buy. Sizing is consistent with most Tracy Reese skirts, so I sized up to an 8.

Anthropologie Spring Reviews: Dresses

Thanks to the very tempting 20% off promo at my Anthropologie store this weekend I now have a ton of reviews to share. I'll start with dresses because they are of course my favorite.

Backswept Dress by Corey Lynn Calter, $268 (here):

I saw this dress last week and after looking at the price went unhappily on my way. Then I couldn't stop thinking about it, especially after seeing Lori's review. So I tried it on this time, and...oh my...I fell in love. The seafoam green and orange floral print pair together really nicely, and the silk is a nice weight, and perfectly flowy. I adore the ties on the pockets, and the cutout in back that also has a tie. There is a side zip, and I believe the dress fits TTS, I got a 6. The promo pushed me over the edge and this beauty came home with me. I didn't want to have to obsess about it anymore, and I liked having the fresh stock so I could pick the dress with the best pattern placement. If you're wondering why there are no modeling shots that's because I am saving them for a special post. : )

It seems like minty green and orange are the colors of the season...for comparison...

Readymade Dress by Odille, $128 (here):

All these summery dresses are really starting to make me anxious for sunny weather (it was raining today, of course). This dress looks like separates from afar, but they are paired together quite nicely. The top is securely affixed to the bottom and doesn't look like it will come apart. The shirt is a lightweight cotton with a little pocket, and the skirt is a soft denim. The dress closes with a side zip (plus a little button mid-zip for good measure). I found this to be TTS, I took a 6. I can see just throwing this on to run errands or take a stroll in when the weather is finally nice.

In an Instant Dress by Maeve, $98 (hidden online):

I was initially waiting for sale on this dress, but the stock was dwindling at my local stores, and after trying it on I wanted to bring it home! This dress kind of flies under the radar because it's on the plainer side, but that's what makes it so versatile. The top is thick and stretchy, and the skirt portion is a crisp cotton. The dress closes with a side zip. Even though I have the yellow Vappu and yellow In a Moment I still managed to justify needing another yellow skirted ensemble dress. : ) The fit is TTS, I got a 6.

Top Sail Maxi Dress by Bordeaux, $148 (here):

Let me start by saying I am not a maxi dress/skirt person. Even though I'm on the tall side, maxis just really aren't my style. I tried this dress on on a whim and I am now officially a maxi dress convert. I want to wear this to work tomorrow (I won't though), and every day after that. It's just sooo comfortable, and I still feel stylish and not at all frumpy. The dress portion is a thicker stretch jersey, and the overshirt is a soft thin cotton, and I love how it drapes. I'm 5'7" and when barefoot the dress skims the floor, so this will likely be worn with some cute wedges. The sizing is somewhat flexible, but I think this is better suited to a loose, drapey fit, so I stuck with my usual S. Note the shirt comes attached to the dress by a string, and that made for a very frustrating dressing room experience, so I snipped that sucker first thing!

Nautical Dreaming Chemise by Puella, $88 (here):

Another maxi! Okay, technically this is a chemise, but it is going to be my summer house dress. The material is very thin and slightly sheer, so I think it's better suited for around the house type wear. It feels like a rayon/cotton mix, and is stretchy, but the fit is loose and flowy so I easily fit into a S. There is no closure, it is pull on style. This also comes in a few other striped and solid colors, but I liked this gray/gray motif the best.

Night Moves Chemise by Jonsey, $68 (here):

This is another chemise but I think it will make a great summer dress. The top is soft cotton jersey, and the bottom is a linen like polyester blend that feels cool and light. The front hem is shorter than the back, and the skirt drapes nicely. I also really like the low scoop on the back of the bodice. The fit is TTS, this is a S. At this price it's a steal!

Seattle Ladies...University Village Shop to Make a Difference!

It’s that time of year again...University Village is helping raise money for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Make a $25 donation and receive a 20% discount card to use May 13-15 at most of the stores in the shopping center, including Anthropologie, Banana Republic, and J. Crew. It’s a good cause, and you get an incentive to shop! They are also giving away little U Village nylon shopping totes at a booth outside H&M.

I of course had to pay a visit to Anthropologie today so I could avoid the weekend crowds. I’ll have reviews on what I picked up later, but FYI, the tag sale has not started. Sale items seemed the same as in the last couple of weeks. They do have an abundance of new spring items, but sadly the two dresses I was looking for (Spiced Dress & Essential Summer Shift) were not in yet.

Reviews: Calypso St. Barth for Target

I wouldn't describe my style as anything resembling beachy, so I am not typically drawn to resort wear (especially living in Seattle), but after seeing some reviews on the Calypso St. Barth collection for Target I decided to check it out. Overall I was impressed by the quality of the pieces (lots of cotton and linen, and no polyester from what I saw), which were at very reasonable price points. I even ended up picking up a few pretties (sorry for the wet hair!):

Dip-Dye Tiered Maxi Skirt, $34.99 (XS):

This was surprisingly my favorite piece in the collection. The gauzy cotton is lightweight and flowy, and the gradient mix of yellow/green/blue is quite pretty. I actually prefer to wear this as a dress rather than a skirt, and given the elastic waist the sizing is flexible. I went with an XS so you can definitely size down. This piece makes me anxious for a summer vacation!

Tie-Dye Maxi Dress, $39.99 (8):

I'm not a huge fan of maxi dresses, but the bright red, crisp cotton, and crisscross back straps drew me to this piece. The skirt is full but not too voluminous, and the chest is supportive enough to not require a bra. I would say stick to your regular size if you are small busted, and go up a size if you are like me. : ) Sizing up makes the sides and waist a little roomy but your chest will thank you.

Embroidered Ruffle Dress, $39.99 (S):

This soft cotton embroidered dress is pretty and flattering. The scalloped off the shoulder bodice can be worn a few different ways, and is not restrictive on your arms. The elastic empire waist is not tight at all, and the skirt doesn't cling to your hips. The dress is lined and I can see wearing this on cool summer nights.

Sleep Chemise, $29.99 (M):

While this is intended to be sleepwear I think it makes the perfect white summer dress. The cotton voile is soft and trimmed in lace, and the bodice is nicely detailed. The dress is pull on style with an elastic waist. My store didn't have a S to try but I think the M is perfect, because the chest area seems like it would be too tight in a smaller size.

I am really pleased with this designer collaboration so far. I plan to order a couple pieces that they didn't stock in store online, and will check out some of the tunics when they hit sale. Anyone else check this line out?

(Belated) Anthropologie Sale Picks/Reviews

I was a little shopped out after my birthday haul but Anthropologie insisted on having another sale this week, so I had to check it out. These are my picks:

Across the Land Dress by Maple, $69.95:

I actually bought this dress full price a little while ago, but at the time I could only find a 6. I never wore it because I couldn't stop thinking it was too big. Then this week I found one on the sale rack in a 4, and it fit perfectly, so I'm glad I never wore the 6! So I would say go down a size. The wrap style fastens with hooks at the neck and waist, and I think the shape is really flattering. The material is kind of heavy, but I love the keyhole detail and of course the polka dots!

Berry Months Dress by We Love Vera, $79.95:

I had never really noticed this dress but decided to try it on, and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely it is. I had not realized there were giant strawberries at the bottom! The cotton is soft and lays nicely, and the chiffon trim on the bodice is very pretty. There's smocking in the back and detachable straps. The store didn't have my usual 6 so I tried an 8 and it is a little big, but still workable for me. I'd say this is TTS.

Loop Stack Cardigan by Field Flower by Wendi Reed, $49.95:

I love Field Flower cardigans, and this is another adorable creation. The pink and gray color combo and the loop design look great with the boyfriend style cut. The material is soft and stretchy. I normally take a M in Field Flower but the S worked great in this one, so I'd say this runs TTS to a little big.

Cultural Heritage Skirt by Yoana Baraschi, $69.95:

This skirt is gorgeous! Love the navy, the polka dots, and the red accents. I had just tried it on last week but the only one in my size had a broken zipper. I went to a different store this time and luckily they had one in my size. I found my normal 6 to be a great fit, so I think this runs TTS. (Note I normally don't have to size up for pencil skirts, so I would recommend your normal size in pencil skirts, not regular skirts.)

Ackee Pencil Skirt by Corey Lynn Calter, $69.95:

This was apparently the week for pencil skirts. This bright number had been on my wishlist for a while so I was glad to snap it up. The crisp cotton material does have some stretch, but typical of CLC it runs a tad on the small side. I tried both my usual 6 and an 8 and was a little torn on what size to go with. The 6 fit but I wondered if it was a little too, um, bootylicious for work, but the 8 was a little baggy in the waist and back. Ultimately I went with the 6, so I'd say TTS unless you normally size up in pencil skirts.

Fantastic Field Skirt by Moulinette Soeurs, $49.95:

This skirt completely flew under my radar until now...I'm glad I finally noticed it because it's really quite lovely. The colors are extremely vivid, and I like the thick cotton pique material. Based on the reviews I expected it to run small, and since the store didn't have a 6 I tried the 8, which fit nicely, so I would say go up one size. It has a high-waisted fit so you could stick with your regular size if you wear it a little higher up.

Rippled Ribbon Belt, $19.95:

This lovely brushed suede belt is the perfect topper to any dress. The pale blue color is beautiful, and it fastens with a hook closure in the back. My store only had a M and it fit easily, but there are several holes you can choose to fasten the hook into so the sizing is flexible. It also comes in taupe but I didn't see that color in person.

I also ordered the Tippi Dress and am contemplating the Gull Wings Dress. I'd planned to get the navy but saw a purple stripe motif on the website a few days ago that I might like better. Oddly though the photo is gone now, so I'm not sure whether to wait or not... : (

Anthropologie Birthday Fun/Reviews Part 2

Thanks for the comments on my first round of reviews, I hope they are helpful. Here's the second set from my birthday shopping trip, which consists of mostly tops and a few extras.

En Route Blazer by Cartonnier, $98 (S) & Lace Tracings Tee by Greylin, $68 (S):

I heart blazers, and this cropped navy striped piece is perfect for summer. The material is very soft, thick, and has a little stretch. The rolled cuffs and pocket trim are nice touches. I normally wear a M in Cartonnier blazers but in this one the M was loose and boxy whereas the S fit perfectly, so I'd say it runs a tad big. Underneath I am wearing a pretty white tee from a brand I haven't bought before - Greylin. While the material is thin and slightly sheer, the crochet detailing on the neckline is gorgeous. The cutouts go around to the back as well, which also has three little buttons and a small keyhole. This tee also comes in a lovely dark blue color but I chose the white so I could wear it under anything. The fit is loose and flowy, so I went with a S, but you could size down for a closer fit.

Alstroemeria Tee by Deletta, $78 (S):

It's amazing how much different a top can look before you put it on. While the print is lovely I thought the cut looked plain laying on a table, but once I put it on I just adored it. The material is mostly a stretchy jersey type, but the draping over layers feel like silk chiffon. I like the asymmetrical hem and overall I felt like the top was really flattering. I think it runs TTS, this is a S.

Loosened Shelby Blouse by Porridge, $58 (6):

This top is basically the Eastpointe Garden Top in another print. I already have that top in yellow so I wanted the green in this one, but I didn't really like the color in person. The blue, however, won me over easily. It's hard to tell in pictures but the blue is so vivid, and the pops of red are so pretty. The fit is very blousy, and although I chose to stick with my usual 6 you could definitely size down.

Cherry Drops Corset by Girls From Savoy, $49.95 (8):

I had been prepared to shell out full price for this but then it was kind enough to go on sale! The cut of this piece is so perfect. You can remove the halter strap but I think that takes away from the cuteness. The red is nice and bright without being too red, and the material is a crisp cotton. Unfortunately all my store had was an 8, which fits thanks to the smocking in the back, but it still feels a bit loose. I may have to hunt down a 6, but I still love it either way.

Odanata Culottes by Daughters of the Liberation, $68 (6) & Seychelles Spectator Espadrilles, $138 (8.5):

Okay, these are the cutest shorts I've seen in a while. They are a pale, silky blue rayon with a dragonfly print. They aren't too thin, and are pull on style with no zip or button closure. The front ties well and the fabric drapes nicely (despite my pulling them up a little too high, sorry!). I like that they aren't too short. I can't wait for the weather to cooperate so I can actually wear these.

I've had these wedges in my cart for a while but I hesitated on pulling the trigger (I don't know why) and they sold out. I was sad when I saw how cute they looked on other bloggers, but luckily there was one pair left in my size at the store. They are comfortable and the fit is TTS.

Anthropologie Birthday Fun/Reviews Part 1

Sorry for the absence...I haven't felt much like posting lately, but I've been keeping up with everyone. : ) I haven't been shopping much either but I managed to squeak in my birthday spree before the end of the month. In this first post are dresses and skirt sets.

Mompos Dress by Plenty from Tracy Reese, $228 (8):

This dress has been reviewed to death but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. I'm a big TR fan and I loved the catalogue pic so I knew this was a contender for the "birthday dress". I'm not having a party or anything but I like to get a special dress as a present to myself. The Mompos is very pretty in person...I like the cornflower blue color and the embroidery is lovely. The back zip and back snaps on the belt are kind of a pain to do up by yourself. I found the 6 to be too small in the chest like usual with TR, so I sized up to an 8, although now the waist is a little loose. Honestly, I wasn't as blown away as I expected to be, but I have a feeling I will be glad I have this once a special occasion comes along.

Verdant Slip Dress by Moulinette Soeurs, $138 (6) & Bette Cardigan by Sparrow, $68 (M):

Now this dress blew me away...I LOVE it! I knew from the moment I saw it in the store weeks ago that it would be a birthday haul purchase. I didn't dare try it on before because I knew I'd want to bring it home immediately. The minty green color is perfection, and the silk is a nice weight and very flowy. There is smocking in the back and a side zip. I found it to be TTS, a 6 was an easy fit and my chest didn't feel squished. I tried on the 8 as well and it was just a little looser in the sides and chest, so you could size up if you want a less body hugging fit in the chest area. This cardigan, while plain, is the kind of staple piece you'll wear again and again. It is soft, comfortable, and the short sleeves are perfect for summer. I went with a M so I could layer easily and not have any button pulling.

Anadyomene Cardigan by Rosie Neira, $88 (M) & Decade by Decade Skirt by Plenty by Tracy Reese, $128 (6):

Okay this cardigan is just so pretty. I love the sweetheart neckline, and the material is nice and soft. The M was a nice fit, and it seemed to go with everything I tried on. I hope to pick up another in turquoise when it goes on sale. I have been holding out on this skirt but finally tried it on and of course love it. Darn you Tracy Reese. The green is bright and the floral print is not overwhelming. At 5'7" the length isn't too much for me, but shorter girls might find it too long. Be warned this is *very high-waisted...if you're not comfortable with that you might want to size up. I stuck with my normal 6.

Cape Tee by Piper & Paul, $68 (S) & Apothecary Skirt by Parameter, $98 (6):

This tee is awesome. It looks a bit drab on the hanger but once you put it on...wow. The fluttery sleeves lay beautifully, and it is soft and comfortable. The back dips lower than the front does. I will buy this tee in other colors if they make it to sale. It has a loose, slouchy fit, so it is easily TTS or you could size down. I had no plans to buy this skirt, because I already have the black/brown version from last winter, but the bright cobalt blue and pretty floral print did me in. The skirt has an elastic waist and snaps in the front (I didn't find it necessary to undo them to put on the skirt though). I found it TTS, this is a 6.

Back Porch Blouse by Two of Us, $98 (6) & Plaited Brushstrokes Skirt by Lil, $88 (6):

I don't know why I waited so long to try on this blouse, it is absolutely gorgeous. The lace is intricately cut and the little button snaps are delicate yet sturdy. I like having the option to wear it as a blouse or a cardigan so I stuck with my true size 6, which bordering on a little big. You could maybe size down if you plan to only wear it open. As for the skirt, now that I've brought the it home I'm feeling a little mixed. I love the melon/brown color palette but it feels a bit poufy. It has a back zip and fits TTS, this size 6 is a tad bit tight in the waistband but the 8 was droopy on me. I am thinking I might exchange this for the Hamatreya Skirt or the Ivory Tower Tank if it doesn't grow on me in the next couple of days.

Seam-Shaped Cowlneck by C. Keer, $58 (S) & ~~Mystery~~ Cultivation Skirt by Edme & Esyllte, $68 (S):

I'd usually wait for a sale on a plain tank like this, but it looked so great on I had to bring it home. The great eggplant shade went with so many pieces I tried on, and the material is very soft. There's a flower like detail on one shoulder, and the subtle cowl draped nicely. There are a couple seams running down the front that are probably supposed to be a design element but I barely noticed them, and always ended up tucking the top in. I can't find this skirt online, but it is adorable in person. It's the perfect kind of casual, cotton skirt that you can throw on and wear anywhere. It is pull on style with elastic smocking in the back, so the S was a comfortable fit. I would say it runs a little smaller than the Amhara Skirt, but has a similar design.

For Work & For Play: Anthropologie Poche Shirt

I tend to be bad about noticing wardrobe staples at the store - things like t-shirts, jeans, and button-ups, because they just kind of blend into the background when displayed next to pretty new dresses. I did however take note of the Poche Shirt on a table a few months ago, told myself that I should check that out when I had time, and promptly forgot about it. I remembered it when it appeared on the sale page online a few weeks ago, but it sold out pretty quickly and my local stores were wiped out, so I did a charge send for the red plaid and the blue gingham colors.

The size Small turned out to be the perfect fit. I often size up to Mediums on button-up shirts to avoid button pulling, but that wasn't a problem here, and there was still plenty of room on the sides (which flare out towards the bottom), so I would say this runs a bit on the large side. The material is a very lightweight cotton that is slightly sheer, so I recommend a tank underneath. There are also little ruffles around each of the cuffs, which button up (I don't know why they covered up the cute ruffles in all the product shots!). Bottom line: these are awesome shirts, and a steal at the current price of $39.95! It also comes in a yellow/pastel floral color (here).

Look for work:

I wanted to pair the boyish shirt with a girly skirt for my work look, so I picked the full, flouncy Field Skirt. I thought the blue gingham paired nicely with the deep yellow color. My office is really cold so I threw a cozy sweater on top that complemented the colors in the rest of the outfit. A neutral pair of frilly heels completed the look.

Reviews: COACH Spring 2011

I'd taken a bit of a break from purchasing new COACH items the last six months or so, as I felt I had enough purses and none of the shoes or accessories were really calling to me. My local store called me about a customer event a few weeks ago and I decided to take a peek at the website and see if there were any pretties meant for me. Of course I found some and with the 25% off it was a good deal, so I placed a small order for these:

Kristin Hobo in peony (#16808), $298 (here):

I haven't been tempted by any handbags for a while, but the color of this beauty got me. I love everything pink, and the deep coral hue is really lovely in person. The leather is smooth and good quality, and the hardware is brass. I prefer wearing it with the longer strap, but the shorter strap is great for picking it up and is very soft if you want to wear it over your arm. I love how the bag slouches just right, and it will only get better as the leather breaks in. (Oops, I forgot to take the plastic off around the hardware in front.) Overall a great bag that's perfect for spring.

Buffy Heels in beige (#Q1044), $198 (here):

I have been looking for the perfect nude pump for what feels like years. I wanted them to be that perfect shade of nude, have a high, skinny heel, and be comfortable. I know, that's asking a lot. But oh my, I think these are them. I ordered my usual 8.5 and they fit TTS, and are not tight anywhere. The platform gives that extra height without making the heel unwearable, and I love how the wood blends into the color of the shoe. I haven't worn these out yet so I don't know if they will be comfortable after extended wear (COACH shoes usually are in my experience), but if they are I forgive you COACH for taking 2 weeks to get these to me. These are also available in black.

Owl Pendant (#95186), $78 (sold out online):

I seem to have developed an odd fascination for owls lately, so this adorable pendant caught my eye. It's made of sterling silver and has a smooth finish. This is a shorter necklace that will go great with button-ups and higher collared shirts. I have been wearing my initial necklace to death so I'm glad to have something new to sub in. He's a cutie!

Overall I am pleased with my purchase, although to be honest the ordering experience wasn't the smoothest. I normally buy from the COACH boutiques but I didn't have time to go to the mall so I decided to just place my order online. That was easy enough, but I got charged twice (and no, I didn't hit submit twice). I was even charged two different amounts. It was a pain to have to call a couple of times to get it straightened out, but COACH CS finally refunded one of the charges so I'm not (too) mad anymore and will keep my purchases.

OOTDs & Versatile Blogger Award

First, thanks to the lovely S from the delightful find and Gabby from Le Petit drapiere for giving me the Versatile Blogger Award. S puts incredibly stylish outfits together, plus she does awesome reviews and home posts, and Gabby showcases beautiful daily outfits and shares her great Anthro finds. Both of them often make me want to buy more shoes. : ) Thanks for thinking of me ladies!

I am supposed to share 7 facts about myself, but I don't have a lot of time tonight so I will have to save that for later. I'm not going to tag anyone because I think most of my newly discovered bloggers have been recommended by others, but I would recommend checking out all the lovely blogs on my sidebar (and I will actually update that list soon!). On to my OOTDs...

I didn't want to buy this dress at first because I thought it would be too poufy, but it's really not (I do need to steam it though!). I like the steely gray color, the vivid blue embroidery, and the prominent front pockets. The dress has a side zip, and I found it to run a size big, as I easily fit into a 4. It stays up well on its own so I didn't attach the removable straps. I paired it with a ruffled cardi that matches the blue in the dress perfectly!

Reviews: Target GO Designer Collective Dresses Part 2

I finally made my way to the larger Target in the area that stocked more of the GO Designer re-releases because I wanted to see if they still had any of the pieces I hadn't yet seen. The selection was pretty picked over, but there were a few gems...

Thakoon Printed Tie-Waist Dress, $39.99 (sold out online):

This was the Thakoon piece I really wanted to try and I was so sad when I saw there were none left. Then I checked the fitting room go-backs and found one! It was a Small so I didn't have high hopes, but unlike most of the pieces in the designer collections this one runs TTS to a bit big. The Small fit great and there is still some room in the sides, but I wouldn't size down because of the arms. The Medium I planned on getting would have been too large, so I lucked out. This shirtdress has hidden buttons up the front, and the material is a nice midweight cotton with a little stretch. The tie is the same material/print as the dress.

Behnaz Sarafpour Silk Georgette Lace Dress, $44.99 (here):

I thought this piece was lovely online but I didn't think it would look good on me. I tried it on for fun and was surprised at how flattering it is. The scalloped lace tiers are so pretty in person and have a gradient effect, and they aren't bulky like I thought they would be. I also like the sheer panel at the top, but I think I will probably remove the little flower. The sizing was the typical juniors, this is a 9. The lining feels soft and has stretch, but the lace overlay does not. There is a side zip.

Temperley Swiss Dot Chiffon Dress, $39.99 (here):

I think Temperley makes really classic, beautiful pieces, and this dress fits right in. The swiss dots, the ruffled collar, and the back tie all make this piece feel really feminine. The fluttery sleeves are the perfect length, and the skirt has a nice swing to it. You can never have too many black dresses, so this one came home with me. I think this piece runs true to junior sizing except for the chest area - I found the 9 smooshed my chest too much so I got this in an 11 (and it's still a little boobalicious).

Libertine Striped Tunic, $24.99 (here):

I forgot to take a picture of this so I'll have to settle for a stock photo. From the pictures I thought this dress looked like a plain t-shirt dress so I wasn't planning to add it to my list, but I came across one and saw how cute it really was. The slightly puffed sleeves and keyhole in back are nice little touches. The store only had an XS which surprisingly fit (it is stretchy), but was a little more formfitting than I would like, and way too short! So I am on the hunt for a S or M (preferably M for length) - if anyone has one they'd like to sell please let me know.

Erin Fetherston Layered Dress, $44.99 (here):

This is my first fitting room photo, so sorry for the quality (I really don't like taking photos in public either). I like tiered dresses and tops so I was looking forward to trying this dress on. The material is nice and silky, and the bow is well shaped. Unfortunately it looked very boxy and wide on me, so I had to pass. The fit was the same as the Erin F. bunny dress, I tried a 9 and could easily zip it. A 7 might have worked as well.

OOTD: Anthropologie Color Dipped Dress

This outfit frustrates me a little. I love Corey Lynn Calter designs, but I hate how they are often not cut for women with large chests. I take a 6 in her non-strapless dresses and tops, but in her strapless dresses I often can't zip an 8 over my chest comfortably even though the waist is already too big. Such was the case with this dress, which I love the look of, but I don't love the fit. I went up two sizes in order to accommodate my chest, but now the waist is really loose and the hips are so big the sides of the dress are not actually touching my body! Sigh. I'm stubbornly not giving up since I picked it up for such a good price, but I wonder if it looks too poufy?

What I am loving are the shoes in this outfit, which I recently bought from a fellow blogger. Pink...tweedy...bows...sigh. Thank you!

Review: Anthropologie Bonneville Wedges & OOTD

I loved these gorgeous Bonneville Wedges ($118) from Seychelles the minute I saw them online (here). Unfortunately they are an online exclusive so I couldn't buy them in store, so I've been anxiously awaiting their arrival for the last week. I ordered an 8.5, my usual size in Seychelles and most other shoes. Here is what they look like in person:

And on me:

Oh my, they are fabulous. They are a gorgeous nude color (though slightly darker than they appear on the website) and are made of a smooth, thick leather. They have a back zip and a high wooden wedge heel that is surprisingly easy to walk in. My usual 8.5 was a perfect fit, so I would say they are TTS. I can see these going with endless outfits this spring and summer. Bottom line: I highly recommend these, and would encourage you to buy them now if you want them, as they are selling out fast!

As for my OOTD, I also loved this dress at first sight! The autumnal tones combined with the gorgeous strappy back and flowy skirt were an instant hit with me:

I resisted picking it up for a while because I felt like it was still too cold out and I would be covering up the best part of the dress with a cardigan, but then I realized it's beautiful covered up too. I decided to stay in the brown color family and paired it with one of my favorite cardigans and the shoes I got last week (reviewed here).

OOTD: Anthropologie Sun Shades Dress

It's not spring yet but over the weekend I wanted to feel springy, so I pulled out my new dress, weather be darned. I was going to be mostly indoors anyway. I love the deep golden strips of ribbon on this soft cotton frock, topped off with a jaunty grosgrain waist tie. The crinoline underneath is full, with just the right amount of pouf. There's a back zip and the straps are also made of yellow grosgrain. I paired it with a cardigan that had yellow tones but also some pink and green for an added punch of color. Sometimes you just need to wear something pretty to brighten your day.

Anthropologie Shoe Reviews

*Side note: I have listed some new items for sale on my sale blog. I'll also be back later today with an OOTD.

All of these reviews are for shoes that just went on sale...so they are a little harder to find but still in stores. I know I had a hard time deciding what sizes to order because the reviews didn't seem that helpful for some of these, so thought this might be useful for anyone considering these shoes. I wanted to also review the Salutations & Closings Heels and the Nelumbo Kitten Heels but my store didn't have either of them. For reference I am normally an 8.5/39 in shoes, and I have slightly wide feet.

Ribbon Moss T-Straps, $99.95:

I am loving these chunky heeled t-straps from Miss Albright. The olive color is deep and rich, and the material is a thick, textured leather. The straps have snap closures, and although I feel like the opening in the front could have been a little smaller the floral appliques won me over. I ordered a 39 and they fit perfectly on my smaller foot and a little snugly on my larger foot. I wondered if I should have ordered a 39.5, but then I think they would have been too long...the whole Euro sizing thing always throws me for a loop. I think if I stretch the one shoe a little they will be perfect, so I say TTS or you could order 1/2 size up for a little more room.

Tied Awry Heels, $79.95:

Another pair of Miss Albrights, I ordered these on a whim and didn't really expect to like them, but they're actually pretty adorable! The half t-strap, half maryjane look is unique, and the bow print on the toes are very cute. I ordered a 39 and I think they fit TTS with a little room to spare, so they feel pretty comfortable.

City of Love Ballerinas, $59.95:

These Chanel-esque satin ballet flats are beyond lovely, and I love the bow detail. These are from a brand called Marais. I got these in both 8.5 and 9 and I'm really glad I picked up the 9, because the 8.5 were really tight for me. I'd say size up a half size in these unless you have smaller/narrower feet for your size. I have listed the size 8.5 (along with some other new items) on my sale blog.

Keep Close Booties, $59.95:

These Seychelles booties are great. Despite the high heel they are comfortable, and I like the canvas like material for a change from the usual leather booties. I sized up a 1/2 size to a 9 and I think that was the right choice. There is a little room in the toe but I feel like the 8.5 would have been snug. These are a steal at the sale price, and they also come in a cream color.

On a related note, in case anyone else bought them, the Hallowed Halls Oxfords that I *finally* tracked down a couple of weeks ago got a second cut...my store kindly checked the price for me and I got a PA to $29.95! Now if I can only get my hands on the Sawtooth Myrtle T-Straps in a 39.5/39 (which I dilly dallied over for months and now have no chance of finding in a store), my 2010 fall/winter shoe collection will be complete!

Reviews: Target GO International Designer Collective Dresses

I've been patiently awaiting the re-release of the designer dresses from Target's GO International line. There were a couple that I missed out on and knew I would be picking up, as well as pieces I wanted to try from collections I completely missed out on, like Jovovich-Hawk and Thakoon. I live in a kind of out of the way suburb and even though I forgot to set my clock ahead(!) and arrived 20 minutes after my Target opened I was the first person to shop the collection. Since my Target is smaller they didn't have the full line, so I didn't get to see all the pieces, but I did find several that I liked, including:

Rodarte Lace-Print Dress, $39.99 (here):

I totally spaced on the debut of the Rodarte line and by the time I got to it the only piece I couldn't find was this dress, so I am happy to have another chance to pick it up. This is rather thin polyester, but the print looks great in person and it will be perfect for work with a simple black cardigan.The waist is elastic so the Medium was an easy fit for me. The Large was super baggy and a Small would be too tight under the arms. There's plenty of room for my bust in this size as well.

Tucker Floral Button-Front Dress, $34.99 (here):

I also missed out on this cute little dress the first time around so I knew I would be picking it up this time. It's polyester but feels silky, and the floral print is nice and vivid. There are buttons down the front that say Tucker but they are really just decorative. This also has an elastic waist and I think I will add a belt to define my waist. The sizing threw me off a little, as I took a Small in the other Tucker dress I have, but in this the Medium felt snug on my bust and under the arms. I wanted a more flowy, tunic style look so I got this in a Large.

Jovovich-Hawk Floral Dress, $39.99 (here):

I LOVE this dress. I am so sad that Jovovich-Hawk is kaput because I love their boho chic designs. At first glance this dress is a bit sack-like, but add a belt and it becomes absolutely lovely (note that is my own belt from Anthropologie). The floral/cream combo, bell sleeves, and ruffly hem are so pretty, and I think the overall look is romantic. It is polyester but feels like silk georgette, so it is the most delicate of the dresses. This also comes in a black/tan polka dot print. I found the Medium to fit just right under the arms so I stuck with that size.

Jovovich-Hawk Lurex Mini Dress, $34.99 (here):

I did not expect to like this dress at all, but it is really cute in person. The color is a gorgeous dusky blue, and the metallic threads running through the fabric are subtle and not too shiny (I think the flash in the pics just makes it look brighter than it is). The crochet trim is nicely done, but be warned the arms are cut small. The Medium fit me fine around the bust and waist but the armholes were tight so I sized up to a Large. I will belt this when I wear it to give it a more structured look. There are slits in the sides so this definitely calls for tights, but I also think it would look great as a tunic over leggings or skinnies.

Erin Fetherston Chiffon Bunny Dress, $39.99 (here):

OMG how adorable is the print on this dress? This will probably have to be my Easter dress, and I have to say the little bunnies just make me smile. The material is silky and flows very nicely. I think the cut is really flattering and the silky sash feels thick and well made. There is a side zip and it wasn't sticky at all. I took an 11 in this piece. If I had a smaller bust a 9 would have worked fine.

Tracy Feith Hibiscus Print Dress, $39.99 (here):

I was thinking I wouldn't like this dress in person because of the high neckline but I was so wrong, this is one of my favorites! The colors and floral print are perfectly spring, and the ruffled skirt flares out beautifully. It is a mid-weight cotton with a mesh crinoline, and the back is cut much lower with an exposed zip. I think the overall look is just beyond cute. I found this dress to run the smallest though, because the 11 was crushing my chest so I had to get a 13! Anyone larger than me (normally a 6, probably closer to an 8 right now) will sadly be sized out unless you have a very small chest.

Temperley Voile Ruffle-Front Dress, $34.99 (here):

This piece didn't photograph well, but I think it's cute in person. It's a simple cotton voile shirtdress with a ruffled collar and bodice, and a waist tie. The buttons down the front are functional, so there is a lot of unbuttoning needed to get into this dress. The material is thin and slightly sheer so I would wear a slip underneath. I found the Medium to pull too much at the buttons so I got this in a Large. There's still a gap between two buttons but I think a piece of double stick tape will fix that. This is the only dress I'm unsure about...oddly enough I don't know if it's too frilly, or too plain?!?

Overall I think this was a great sampling of the previous designer collections. I wish they had included some tops as well, and the (junior) sizing was all over the place like is typical for these collections, but I'm really happy with the dresses I got. The only piece I wanted to see that I didn't get to try was the Thakoon Floral Print Dress, but I think the cut is too similar to the Anthropologie Pond Reflections Dress I plan to get, so I'm okay missing out on that one. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and I highly recommend checking out this collection.

Wishlist Wednesday

I really enjoy when other bloggers post what is on their wishlist and update it as they make purchases, so I thought I'd do something similar to help me stay focused on the things I really want. I have a tendency to get sidetracked so I need help focusing. : ) These are my current 5 most wanted:

Bonneville Wedges, $118:

~~I've already decided these will be my next purchase.~~ Umm...I guess I should not take a 3 day break in the middle of writing a post. These lovelies are on their way to me. I love wedges, and I think the pinkish-nude color and unique design will make these my go-to shoes this spring and summer. Seychelles have been pretty consistently comfortable for me so I am hoping these will be too.

Languid Days Skirt, $68:

I love the simple cut, deep pink color, and large floral print on this skirt. The material looks light and airy for spring/summer, but would still work with tights for now. Too bad it's sold out online. I am hoping one of my local stores has it in stock this weekend.

Wispy Cirrus Blouse, $118:

I knew I'd be buying this as soon as I saw it online. The lace, the pretty peeks of blue, and the bow to top it off are just perfect for me. I have a gift card and am thinking I might use it towards this...but my birthday is also next month. I'm not sure this will be around by then though.

Contemporarian Dress, $128:

I am really drawn to the crisscross back straps and the autumn tones of this flowy dress. I haven't really seen it in the stores either and it keeps selling out online so I should probably pick it up sooner rather than later.

Ardennes Skirt, $128:

This skirt just bypassed a whole lotta items. Since the Kingston Road Dress looks a little indecent and is overpriced this is a must buy. I am dying over the pastels and the pleating! If I can find this in a store it will be mine.

Any recommendations or words of warning about these items? What's on your wishlist?

OOTD: H&M Polka Dot Dress

I'm not a big H&M shopper but I wander in every now and again, and I picked up this dress a month or so ago (only $34.95!). I love polka dots and ruffles, and with the contrasting melon sash it just called to me. As far as the cardigan, when it went on sale in January I remember thinking the price was still too high. I tried it on in both colors and couldn't decide which I wanted, so I passed. Then I regretted it and ordered the brown, and once I wore it it became one of my favorites. It is soft, comfortable, and the applique is so pretty that I had to order this color too.

OOTD: Anthropologie Amhara Skirt

This cotton skirt is one of my favorite purchases in a while, and so reasonably priced at $68. It's sold out online but my store still had a few, so I imagine it is floating around out there. I love the variety of bright colors and the floral print on the waistband, which is elastic in the back, so while I opted to take my regular size it has a loose fit and you could easily size down. I loved my black floral Bianka Blouse so much I decided to pick up some other colors and ordered a purple one from a store sight unseen. I received the blouse below, which was tagged navy, but it looks purplish to me, so I kept it. I stuck with my normal size again because I like the blousy fit.

Anthropologie Sale Picks

I've been noting people remark about how disappointing the Anthropologie sale was today, but I thought it was quite good (even though I was not supposed to be purchasing anything because I picked up a few goodies over the weekend - will post about those later). That's probably because I'm a big fan of Anthropologie shoes, and it was a big shoe sale day (and I didn't even cry that much over someone snatching up the Sapphire Gem Heels I've been dithering over for months :*( ). Here are my favorites from the sale:

Ribbon Moss T-Straps, $99.95:

I realized a few weeks ago that I really needed olive colored shoes. I love the (high!) chunky heel and the t-strap design of this Miss Albright pair. I had to wildly guess about the size though...which makes me wonder why people review shoes and don't mention the sizing at all? That perplexes me.

City of Love Ballerinas, $59.95:

Being satin and light colored (and since I live in Seattle), these are wildly impractical but incredibly beautiful. And the bow?!? Minemineminemine.

Keep Close Booties, $59.95:

I've been on a booties kick lately, it seems. I think these are cute yet non-fussy looking. I have been missing higher heels lately so these would give me the best of both worlds.

Tied Awry Heels, $79.95:

These I'm kind of on the fence about, but I figured I should try them while I had the chance. I like the taupe-y color but I'm not sure how the leather and the asymmetical t-straps will look on.

Oh, and I guess there were clothes and other stuff too...

D'Armee Dress, $69.95:

I wasn't really interested in this dress until it came out in navy and I saw Laura's review. I tried it on last weekend and thought it was really comfy and flattering. Me and my substantial chest were more comfortable in a size up, so I got an 8. Those with a smaller chest will probably be fine in their usual size, as the arms and waist were fine for me in the 6.

Sur Mer Chemise, $59.95:

I've never seen this in person but the photos looked lovely online. I love spring and pretty pastels, and plan to wear this as a dress if it's not too thin. Yay for the longer length too.

Burgeoned and Tucked Cardigan, $59.95:

I love the deep, vivid colors on this flowy piece, and the pintucks give it more shape than the typical open style cardigan. I'm hoping it's soft too.

Facile Camp Shirt, $39.95:

This looks like a relatively plain top but the cut and drape of the fabric just look perfect, and good button-ups are hard to find! I ordered an 8 to be safe and avoid any button pulling.

Precious Particulars Blouse, $49.95:

I really love anything with a tie-neck, I don't know why. Add in emerald green (okay, and this cute Emma Pillsbury sighting I saw on goldenmeans' blog) and I'm sold.

Farmer's Market Purse, $9.95:

How am I supposed to resist cute little roosters?!? I like the sage green and I'm always a fan of kisslocks. I envision pulling this out of my purse and it making me smile.

Obviously I liked the sale today. : ) I hope everyone found something nice.

Styled: Loungewear as Daywear

I am a big fan of Anthropologie's lounge and sleepwear, and I actually wear a lot of it out of the house! See my Top 10 of 2010 post here for some of my favorites. Here are some of the ways I wear these pieces as daywear. Of course you can always throw a cardigan on top of these looks as well.

Look 1:

This chemise (buy it here) is my newest acquisition, and I really like wearing it as a dress. I love polka dots, and these ivory ones look great against the sharp navy. The quilted bodice is nicely detailed, the straps are adjustable, and there are pockets on the front of the skirt. I find it to run small in the chest area so I would recommend sizing up - I usually take a Small in Eloise but got a Medium in this. I would normally wear tights with this since it is a little short.

Look 2:

I love tie-waist chemises, but you have to be careful they don't look too much like a robe. This silky number really looks like a dress to me except for the length, but a half slip solves that problem. The lovely print and ruffled sleeves on this piece are just too pretty to leave at home. I would also wear this with a long sleeved tee or turtleneck underneath when it's cold out.

Look 3:

This look centers around a longer, tiered chemise. The jersey fabric is soft and comfortable, and it looks really cute over the striped tee I used here. I elected not to wear the lavender ribbon tie that came with it and instead wore a structured belt to make the outfit look more pulled together.

OOTD: A lesson in patience

When I initially saw the Berry Stitched Boots from Anthropologie I decided I didn't want them because I wasn't sure what to pair their unique color with. Then as I began to see bloggers like Laura and Spiffy wear them I began to like them more and more. By that time of course they were pretty hard to find, but they would come back in stock online now and again. I ordered them in December and was quite disappointed when my order was canceled. A week or so later I saw my size back in stock and ordered them again. That order was also canceled. In January I saw them in stock and ordered them again. I was so excited when they finally shipped! Unfortunately when I opened the box it was not the Berry Stitched Boots, but some kind of weird sparkly cowboy-ish boots (later identified as the Bucolic Fields Boots). Sad face. I figured I was just not meant to have these boots.

Then at the end of January they appeared in my size again. All I could think was this has got to be some kind of cosmic joke on me! I refused to order them for TWO DAYS. I didn't want to suffer the disappointment again. But no one bought them, and every time I looked in my shopping cart they were sitting there taunting me, so I caved. I ordered them, and they shipped again, but I was afraid I'd get the same sparkly boots so I didn't get my hopes up. The package of course took a week to arrive and when I opened it...there they were, the Berry Stitched Boots in all their beautiful glory and in pristine condition! They still had the little paper wrappers around the heels and looked as if they'd never even been handled, plus they fit perfectly. And as a bonus, they got a second cut a week later to $59.95. I guess a price adjustment was my reward for having to order them four times. : )

Road Tested: Layering Part 3 - Anthropologie Polka Pop Slip

For the final installment of my layering challenge I am tackling the full slip. In this case I used Anthropologie's Polka Pop Slip by Eloise in pink (size Small) because of the fun bottom flounce. Note this item went on sale several months back so it isn't available anymore, but you could use any of the similar full slips they currently offer.

Look 1:

I started with something simple - throwing a dress over the slip so it peeks out under the hem. I think the pink gives this black dress a nice splash of color, while the fun polka dots add a little bit of whimsy.

Look 2:

For my second look I wanted to wear the slip under a skirt. It also does double duty and serves as a cami under the cardigan. I chose to complement the slip by pairing it with a cardi with pink tones, and I like the contrast against the dark navy skirt. This skirt is plenty long enough on its own, but I like the little flounce peeking out underneath.

Look 3:

In this look I wanted to turn a tunic that is too short to wear on its own into a dress. (Note: this tunic is normally a little longer than mine but this one was damaged and didn't have the bottom layer of ruffles. I only paid $10 so I'm not complaining. : D ) I would normally wear this tunic with leggings or skinny jeans, but the slip gives it enough length that I can go without. I'd probably add a tee underneath, and some cute gray tights and booties to be a little more covered up if I wore this out. I was in a hurry so didn't have time to grab those for the pics.

Blog Sale!

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting the first of my blog sale items that I started in, oh, November. I NEED to clean out my closets. I am horribly bad at purchasing items that are not quite the right size, then coming across the perfect size and never returning the original one, so I have a couple dozen duplicate items, as well as tons of brand new items that just really don't work for me. I do not want to cart all this back to the store, and I feel like since I took so long to make up my mind on most of these I should just offload them myself. Anthropologie Sale Picks

Sorry for the lack of posts...I am not feeling so great and haven't felt up to taking photos (I feel like I'm always saying that). However I have been drafting a bunch of posts so I have the last part of my layering challenge, a couple of styling posts, and some OOTD's to come soon. I also hope to post the first part of a long delayed project this weekend.

I did get around to checking out the Anthropologie sale this week. Of course the one item that was my catalyst for placing an online order got canceled, but I was able to have a store send it to me. I'm still a bit irked that I now have to wait a week for everything else to arrive for no reason. Anyway, I already had a couple of the great things that went on sale, like the Seaside Fields Dress and Bianka Blouse (which I, um, may have picked up in another color), so these were my selections this week:

Sidestepping Dress, $69.95:

Black and white, polka dots, and crochet straps...so cute! I've really been liking the offerings from Maple so far this year. I don't feel the need to say much about this one because it is just perfect and was an easy choice. This dress is very slimming, and I found it to run TTS, I got a 6.

Shirt the Issue Dress, $59.95:

This was styled wonderfully on a mannequin in my store so it has been on my wishlist since it arrived. The dress looks a little plain in the photo but is surprisingly flattering. The collar and back cutout are different than usual and I like that, but be prepared for a little tasteful cleavage. This dress runs small in the chest and does not stretch, so I sized up to an 8.

Soft Soaring Sweater, $69.95:

I've been liking open cardigans lately, and this one is plush and adorable with the little bird print. It's a little on the pricey side for a cardigan but I think it's one I'll get a lot of mileage out of. I believe it runs TTS, so I ordered a Small.

Hiking Ruffles Cardigan, $39.95:

This cardigan is so soft and pretty. I picked up the black because I always reach for black cardigans, but I am tempted to go back for the ivory or purple. They didn't have a Small so I got a Medium which fit fine, if a bit loosely. I think the added length probably helps the ruffles lay better as well.

Cavorting Flora Blouse, $49.95:

I knew I only wanted this colorway in this blouse because I love pastels and this print is so pretty. Of course it is completely sheer but that's what tank tops are for. There was no 6 to try so I got the 8, which is loose around the middle but seems fine in the chest and shoulders, and the buttons don't pull at all. The cuffs feel like they run a little small.

Two-Story Cowlneck, $39.95:

I have been waiting for this top to hit sale, as it's a little too casual to me to be worth full price. The jersey material is wonderfully cozy and this top is just the kind of thing I want to run errands or travel in. I picked up the black in Medium and it has a loose, slouchy fit in the body but the sleeves aren't very roomy, so I think the Small I have on the way in blue might be a tad too snug in the arms. That's ok though because now that I've seen the black in person I like it even more than the blue.

Redux Jacket, $59.95:

It's hard to tell in the picture but this blazer is a soft, stretchy material. The ruffles are flowy and quite beautiful. I ordered the dark gray in a Medium because Cartonnier blazers tend to run tight in the shoulders and arms for me.

To A Tee Blazer, $59.95:

Apparently I'm on a blazer kick because I also picked up this tweedy number from Cartonnier. I like the marled black-gray color, and the cut is really nice. I feel like this is a steal at the sale price. This runs a little small, so the Medium was a good fit for me.

I'm still on the fence about:

Fluttering Obi Dress, $99.95:

This dress looks very elegant to me but I'm not sure if it's my style. I'm actually not a huge fan of silk dresses, and something about the print seems off to me. Also, for some unknown reason I think it might make me look puffy.

Crossing The Stripes Dress, $119.95:

I've wanted this dress since I first saw the picture. The reviews haven't been great, but I liked it when I tried it on. I didn't buy it though because the price still seems high to me. The fabric is thick and the cut is lovely, but I think I'll wait for a second cut. Fit was TTS, I took a 6.

Sweet Cables Pullover, $49.95:

I think this is really cute, but I'm worried it will just look bulky on a non-petite, busty gal like myself. I really love oversized, slouchy sweaters though.

Anyone else partake of the sale? I haven't seen many sale picks this week...

Road Tested: Layering Part 2 - Anthropologie Foolproof Half Slip

Now that I've tried layering over a tank I'm moving on to bottoms. The challenge: a half slip, aka the Anthropologie Foolproof Half Slip by Madchen, which is darling in both colors:

Look 1:

First I wanted to try the slip under a dress. Love this dress. Do not love the length of this dress! I would not feel comfortable wearing this without tights or leggings, and I did not want to wear tights or leggings. Enter the half slip. I feel like it adds enough length without detracting from the simple design of the dress or adding unwanted volume. (Side note: the dress is amazingly flattering and comfortable...once I put it on I knew it was a keeper!)

Next I tried the slip under a flowy skirt. I feel like those couple of added inches go a long way towards making me feel more comfortable in shorter skirts like this, especially ones that fly up in the breeze! I like the contrast of the black against the blush pink, but I think the cream slip would look good here as well.

Look 3:

I also wanted to test the slip with a pencil style skirt, so I used this corduroy mini I picked up recently. I would normally just wear tights and probably boots with a skirt like this, but the slip makes it decent all on its own. I like how the slip flares out slightly like a ruffle affixed to the bottom of the skirt. I wish I would have selected a more brightly colored top though. Doesn't the bottom half of this outfit look a lot like the Macchiato Jumper?

OOTD: Anthropologie Chantilly Chemise

I'm wearing some of my favorite Anthropologie pieces here, starting with the sweatercoat. It's soft, warm (not enough for outerwear), and oh so pretty. I don't wear it often because it feels memorable to me, but when I do wear it I feel just that much more cheery. The chemise I picked up a few weeks ago, and it is unbelievably detailed and lovely, and I love the blush color. I only came across a Medium so I can't compare it to a Small, but I find it to be rather loose in the waist, which is okay since I will always be wearing something over it. I'd say it's TTS except a bit small in the chest area. Of course the boots were my obsession of the last few months, and they just get more comfortable every time I wear them. I do find myself looking down every once in a while to make sure the bows haven't fallen off though. I was completely inspired to pair the chemise with tall boots by Keiko here.

Note: I have finally come to accept that I need to buy a tripod and camera remote so I can take pictures in more brightly lit areas of my house and not be limited to daylight hours and the mirror in my bedroom. I have no idea what to buy though so that might take me a little while!

Inspired/OOTD: Anthropologie Pick A Bunch Cardigan

Just a quick OOTD for this post because I am super aggravated at everyone and everything right now. I'm super annoyed with Blogger too...is this a WYSIWYG editor or not? What is up with the spacing problems lately? Argh.

I have a love-hate thing going on with this cardigan. When I first saw this catalog shot I was intrigued:

Then I saw it in person, and I thought the floral appliques were too big, and I didn't like that they weren't removable. So I decided I would probably pass on it. Then I got the skirt and every time I reached for it I wanted the cardigan - they just go too perfectly together. Of course by that time I couldn't actually find the cardigan anymore...I knew I needed a Small but only stumbled across an XS, and surprisingly it fit. It only pulled a tiny bit at one of the buttons, so I bought it, but then I came across a Medium, and while it is a little too big I'd rather have it too big than too small. I actually don't mind the flowers now either, and it is very soft and comfortable. Sorry for the bad lighting in the pics...the sunlight was fading fast on me. Styled: Anthropologie Finishing School Skirt

I'm taking a break from my layering challenge to do a styling post. A reader asked me to style her recently acquired Finishing School Skirt from Anthropologie, which happens to be one of my favorite purchases of the last year. This corduroy skirt from Cartonnier is TTS (I have a 6) and very comfortable. I have the rust version, and I wish I had picked up the gray as well. I'll start with the outfit I previously posted for the skirt:

This cardigan is my favorite go to match for this skirt. It's sporty yet girly, and I like the mixture of the navy and rust. I also like to wear this outfit with knee-high boots when it's cold.

Road Tested: Layering Part 1 - Anthropologie Maryam Tank

Sometimes I feel like I'm challenged when it comes to layering. I always mean to utilize my wardrobe better but then I wear the same simple combos over and over, so I decided to put myself through a little series of tests. The first challenge was a long tank, in this case the Anthropologie Maryam Tank by Little Blue Bird (available here and in some stores).

At first glance you might be thinking "$58 for a tank top? Are you crazy?" But when you think about it, a tank can be worn repeatedly with so many different outfits that the cost per wear becomes minimal. After trying this tank on I knew it was worth every penny, and that I will be reaching for it a lot. I bought size Smalls, which are TTS (a little big even). The tanks are soft, stretchy, and the lace tiers are super pretty. Here are some of the options I came up with for wearing this adorable piece.

Look 1:

At first I actually thought I came up with this outfit myself, but then I was thinking "hmm...this looks familiar," and pulled up the tank online. Yup...the catalog shot features this blazer + tank combo. I guess that means Anthropologie's advertising is working - their outfits are burned into my subconscious! Anyway, I love the fitted blazer with the tank peeking out over a slim pencil skirt.

For this look I wanted to be a little more casual, so I reached for a denim skirt and a flowy open cardigan. I'm never too casual though, so I added a colorful necklace that complements the pop of color in the cardi. Some tights and booties completed the look, which I found I like both with and without the belt.

When styling these tanks the obvious partner that comes to mind is skinny jeans, and there's good reason for that - the lacy hem peeking out under a cute top or sweater looks fabulous with them. I used this grandpa style cardigan because I think the feminine tank is a nice contrast. Tall boots and a necklace completed the simple look.

I have to admit I'm disappointed with this look. I wanted to try a long open piece over the tank, in this case this bright blazer/dress. It's hard to see the tank in these pics, but they did look nice over leggings, although I would like it to be a little longer. I didn't like how the dress laid open (I probably should have removed the belt), and when buttoned it covered up the tank too much except for when I walked. I thought I should post this look anyway so you can see what doesn't work as well as what does.

Anthropologie Sale Picks

I love seeing what people picked up when there is a big sale, so I am posting the things I couldn't resist. The recent sales haven't exactly been huge, but they've had a good number of items I was interested in, and I am amazed at my restraint because I have not placed a single online order. I feel like there's been too much hassle lately with my orders (repeated cancellations, damaged items, even a missing item) that it seems I'm better off to just see what I come across in store. I'm sure I'll be back ordering online soon though. Anyway, here's what I got (and of course recommend):

Laced With Grace Dress, $89.95:

This dress is beyond pretty, and I love sage green, so it was a no-brainer. I had actually gotten the chance to try it on just last weekend and had almost taken it home with me then, so I already knew where to find it! There was no 6 so I tried the 8 and I liked the fit - I think the 6 would have been too tight across the bust and I want the dress to look more flowy and bohemian. So I recommend sizing up for the busty ladies.

Craftsmanship Capelet, $59.95:

I called CS to locate this and had them check for the yellow/gray combo and they told me there were none, so they located the burgundy/gray for me. When I called the store to search for it I didn't specify a color and then they said "we found the yellow cape" and I was like "What?!? I'll take it!" Then I went to a local store and I found another yellow/gray one in one size up. I tried it on and it was big, but I got to worrying about the other one being too small, or maybe getting lost, so I bought it just in case. So in a week or so I will have either a Small or Medium available if anyone wants it. It would be cost + shipping, or I can tell you when and where I am going to return it.

Volante Tee, $29.95:

I think the color of this tee is just so pretty. At first I found the bow to be a little overwhelming, but now I like it. I found the Small to be a nice and slimming fit - it is stretchy but substantial. I debated picking up the purple as well but haven't come across one in my size.

Deuxhill Cowlneck, $49.95:

Since I'd already picked this up in the black floral print I wasn't really searching for this, but I figured if I found it in the gorgeous turquoise I'd probably get it. I did, so I did! This shirt is just so lovely. You can see my review of it here. This time I got a 4, which was still blousy but a little less so than the 6.

Flutter Sleeve Tunic, $49.95:

I never planned to buy this because it looks like a shorter version of the wonderful Rinzu Robe, which I already have. Then I tried it on, and...wow. The colors are striking and the fit is sooo flattering that it won me over. I'd recommend wearing a cami underneath. It is true to size, I got a 6.

Field Skirt, $39.95:

What is up with the sizing on this skirt? In the gold I needed a 4, in the gray I needed a 6, and in the khaki it was somewhere in the middle (I went with the 6). Fit issues aside, this is an adorable and versatile staple, and since I like corduroy and the cut of this skirt I stocked up.

Sprite's Sleep Chemise, $39.95:

The sister to my much loved Guava Flower Chemise, this navy long sleeved version is equally as cute, only warmer! The fit is TTS but you can easily size up for length, especially since the middle sections are shorter than the sides. I got a Small.

18 karat Belt, $29.95:

I had totally forgotten about this belt but saw a lone one hanging on a rack and it was my size! The leather is thick and a beautiful mix of brown with brownish-black edges, and the bow is adorable. I found the Small fits nicely, even a little big.

I'm still mulling over the following:

Off-the-Beat Dress, $69.95:

I thought this was really cute but my usual 6 was so tight over the bust, and the stores didn't have an 8. I like that it's a nice casual dress that could go with a variety of tops, but I'm on the fence.

Woody Nymph Dress, $79.95:

I tried this in a Small and it fit perfectly. The colors are a great mix of navy and green, but I feel like the price for a simple dress like this is still too much. I don't know. I am so tempted to cave on this one.

OOTD: Anthropologie Walk With Me Dress

Wow, is anyone else really disheartened today? I feel like everything is so sad right now. : ( I just want to say I really appreciate every blogger who takes the time to post, whether it be reviews, outfits, styling ideas, etc. Anyway, I tried to wear something fun to brighten my mood a little, which brings me to this dress. I randomly came across it on the sale rack and was surprised at how cute it was. Apparently the big draw was that you can pin it up like this:

Um, I didn't like that at all. I felt like I belonged in a saloon. So I am wearing it the normal, boring way. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the edge of the bodice and the petticoat are trimmed in blue, which adds a great pop of color. The top is very supportive even without the provided straps because of the boning, and the belt is removable, but I like it. The dress has a side zip and elastic in the back for a comfortable fit. I kept it simple with a plain cardigan and shoes (okay, these aren't plain but they are solid colored!).

I am wishing now that I tried it with the blue Curlytop Cardigan...do you think that would be too long?

OOTD: Anthropologie Deuxhill Cowlneck

I was thwarted from posting Day 7 of my New Shoe series. First my order got canceled, then when I located them in a local store I couldn't find the dress I had selected to go with them. Then I picked an alternate outfit and the pictures came out horrible. Boo. Another day maybe.

So on to a regular OOTD. I really liked the Deuxhill Cowlneck when it was first released in the gorgeous teal color, but since it was a fairly plain silk blouse I put it on my sale buy list. When it was released in the black floral print it shot up to my buy at full price list, but I could not find the darn thing to save my life. Every store I went to had a size 10 only. No one in Seattle must be a size 10! Then I saw it pop back online in my size and I immediately clicked add to cart. Yay for restocking. The 4's sold out while I dithered about what else I wanted to order so I got my regular 6, which is a bit big but I like the flowy look of it so I am happy. The print is so vibrant and pretty, and I think the buttons on the neckline are cute. I paired it with a sleek skirt (love the bow!) and heels for a work look. I didn't bother fussing with the collar, I just let it lay how it wanted!

New Shoe OOTD Day 6: Anthropologie First Glow Peep-Toes

These have to be one of the prettiest pairs of shoes I've seen in a while, and being a nut for everything blush colored, I jumped on them the moment they went on sale.

The week it took these to arrive felt like forever, and I've been waiting not so patiently. Now that they are here I am happy to report they are just as pretty in person. The pumps are made of a soft pale pink suede and the jeweled accents are sparkly without being gaudy. I found my regular 39 to be a tad tight at first on my larger foot but I think they will be fine with some breaking in or a little stretching. This outfit was inspired by several things...the catalog shot below, a Polyvore from the delightful find, and Jan at the Girliest Boy Mom's great styling.

I love the tee-under-dress look, and pink and gray is one of my favorite color combos. I picked up this dress in both gray and red because they are so easy to just throw on and go. I really love the lacy trim on the henley, and the necklace is beyond cute with its little pastel flags.

I decided to grab a pair of flats to drive in (and in case the peep toes hurt me), so I switched to the Skylight Mary-Janes, which were also unworn even though I've had them for a few months now. I had first ordered them a 1/2 size up based on reviews, and found even those to be a little tight in the toes. I reordered them in another 1/2 size up and they are much better, and the gray matches my dress nicely. I threw on a cute coat and took a picture before running out the door, but it turned out kind of blurry, argh.

New Shoe OOTD Day 5: Anthropologie Martingale Boots

I think I was so enraptured with the Bowtied Beauty Boots last fall that I completely overlooked these beauties:

I never even noticed them at my store, or even online until weeks after they'd gone on sale. It was seeing them on Elizabeth at Behind the Dressing Room Door that did me in, and I became obsessed with finding them. I don't think I've ever searched so hard for an item, but I had absolutely no luck finding a size 39 or 40, even after calling a couple dozen stores and stalking the website for popbacks, so I reluctantly gave up. I was sad every time I saw them on bloggers because they always looked so great. Then I went on vacation and at the very last Anthropologie I went to I spied a lone pair from across the room, and I swear I ran to them so fast I actually leapt over some poor woman. I was even shamefully rude and reached above someone else's head to grab them (sorry whoever you were, I was desperate!). I held my breath as I turned them over to check the size and literally went "whee!" when I saw they were 40's. They are a tad big, but since the website and numerous reviews said to size up I think my usual 39's may have been a little tight. I am happy with this size, especially because I can wear thick socks, which I like to do with boots.

I am seriously in love with these boots. The leather is thick and a pretty shade of tan, and the little half-bows at the ankles are a cute touch. They are lined with a cushy material and are super comfortable, especially for mid-heeled boots. I feel lucky that I stumbled across these, and I will always fondly remember my visit to Anthropologie at The Grove! I paired the boots with a silky dress that I belted to define my shape a little. I also really liked the dress without the belt too...it's flowy without being baggy.

New Shoe OOTD Day 4: Anthropologie Dusky Begonia T-Straps

I initially passed on these shoes because they seemed like they might be a little hard to style...

Then I saw them on Confessions of A Call Center Gal and they were just too cute. I decided to give them a try when I spotted them in my size. I've been on a roll with Miss L Fire shoes lately, and these are no exception. They are absolutely adorable in person, and the color is a soft, muted blue. The flower applique is not too large, and the petals seem like they will hold up well. I paired the shoes with my beloved flower cardigan and a ruffly skirt. Something about the finished look seemed maybe a little too cutesy to me, so I also tried pairing the skirt with a more grown up blouse, though I went with the cardigan anyway!

New Shoe OOTD Day 3: Anthropologie Eyelet Platforms

I have been lusting after these shoes for months, but I was stubbornly waiting for a sale, I don't know why. I guess I was trying to be good.

The anticipation was killing me, because they are incredibly gorgeous. I had them in my cart for months, watching the stock slowly dwindle and waiting to pounce. Then they surprisingly went on sale and I waited for a nerve wracking week for them to ship and yet another week for them to arrive. To my relief they finally got here, they are perfect, and I would wear them every day if I could. Navy suede, eyelet, and a bow? Sigh. Since the shoes are beyond girly I paired them with my trusty sporty go-with-anything sweater and this rust colored skirt that I have found surprisingly handy.

I have no need to dress up today, but I couldn't resist trying these pumps on with the De Chelly Dress, which I have been ogling from afar for a couple of months. I picked it up the day it went on sale without a second thought and of course love it. I feel like it was made for these shoes!

New Shoe OOTD Day 2: Anthropologie Slinking Frills Pumps

I initially didn't plan to buy these pumps because I am not that fond of the snakeskin look, but I loved the ruffles and the shape so I decided to give them a try seeing as they were on sale plus an extra 25% off.

Once I got them I knew they were keepers. I've been loving all the ways Sara has been wearing these, and every time I saw them on someone I felt guilty for not wearing them once, so I finally pulled them out. This outfit was inspired by one of my all time favorite catalog shots:

I of course don't look as amazing as that, but I seriously fell in love with this skirt the moment I saw that picture. Pink + plaid + the retro shape = love. The cropped jacket is also a great piece that I now want to get in purple as well.

New Shoe OOTD Day 1: Anthropologie Sweeping Stitch Heels

I had to buy a new shoe rack recently because my closet floor was so cluttered with rows of shoes. I was a little dismayed when I realized most of these shoes had not even been worn yet, so I decided every day this week I will wear a new pair of shoes. Today's pair is the Sweeping Stitch Heels by Seychelles.

It's Sunday and my day consists of going to Target and grabbing a Jamba Juice, so I wanted to be comfy and casual. These shoes are so bright and pretty they don't need a standout outfit to show them off, so I threw on a cute waffle knit sweatshirt and jeans. Who says you can't wear cute shoes just to go to Target?

I am completely behind in my blog reading, posting, and email because I am on vacation, but I have managed to be somewhat productive. I am lucky because I have three Anthropologie stores in my area, but where I am currently visiting there are TEN Anthropologie stores within a 30 or so mile radius. Since I had some downtime I managed to visit three of them yesterday, and was happy to finally grab a Daylight Aurora Top (I found the pink to run TTS and the black to run so small). Anthropologie Top 10 of 2010 Day 7: Dresses

Last but not least in my top 10 series - dresses. If I could only wear dresses for the rest of my life I would be a happy girl. This was definitely the hardest list to make, because there were SO many beautiful dresses this year. I could not narrow it down to ten, so you get 15! This list reflects the dresses that made me feel the best in 2010 - I think it's interesting seeing how different pieces inspired everyone. Since there's so many I'm going to leave out my comments...the pictures speak for themselves. I found it eye opening to look back at what I've picked up over the year, and the beautiful pieces that I've neglected to pull out recently. I am striving to make sure every piece in my closet gets to shine in 2011, and not to forget the beautiful things I already have as new pieces are added.
